We Have To Save Our Own Lives And Reject The Perpetual Sickness Of Obesity Brought On By Bad Eating Habits and Bad Health Choices. African-American/Black Sedentary Lifestyle is Unsustainable and Must Give Way to Movement and Exercise.
First Lady Michelle Obama has worked very hard to educate Americans about healthy choices related to their food intake and the need to exercise. It is her continued goal to ensure that the whole family is moving forward toward a healthy lifestyle through healthy diets and exercise.
It is time for the rest of us to join the fight to save our own lives, make better food choices, and help end obesity and the health challenges it produces. Saturated fats, sugar or artificial ingredients are major contributors to obesity; therefore, bit by bit and bite by bite, we must eliminate them from our diets. We can, and we will save our own lives.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 36 percent of African-Americans are obese – 51 percent higher than the general population.
African-Americans suffer disproportionately from obesity-related diseases such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, cancer and heart disease, which are also the leading causes of death among people of color.
Childhood obesity among African-Americans is especially worrying, with 22 percent of Black children six to 19 years old likely to be overweight compares to 15.5 percent of non-Hispanic whites, the CDC reports.
Members of the African-American/Black faith community can be a force in pushing for healthier African-American/Black families and individuals. In the United States, more than 60 percent of adults are overweight or obese. Most of our sickness is self-induced by living wrong and the abuse of foods.
I am asking members of the faith community to join First Lady Michelle Obama and help save the lives of members of your congregation with dietary guidance from the Bible that hopefully can succeed in inspiring healthy eating habits. Moreover, Faith leaders must teach the concept/use of lifestyle modification to encourage and enable their members to combat the epidemic of obesity.
Faith leaders must acknowledge that their Church families obesity rates are the major problem in the African American/Black religious community since it is a major contributor to heart disease and diabetes. Many African American/Blacks are cutting their lives short by continuing to ignore what they consume as if it won’t affect them if they don’t think about it. Most people world-wide constantly lived on the edge of starvation; therefore, obesity is not their issues. However, in today’s world we must learn to downsize instead of supersize.
Faith leaders must encourage their members to save their own lives by changing both their food consumption and selections; consequently, they will live long enough to experience the very best God has in store for them here on EARTH!
Parents have a moral obligation to protect their children from the dangers of obesity. It is my sincere belief that no parent, in their right mind, would intentionally harm their child; therefore, they must understand that their behavior and lifestyle is a direct link to childhood obesity. Parents are the number one person that handles their children’s healthcare; hence, we firmly believe that once parents know better they will do better!
Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22: 6)
For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity that he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not. 1. (Samuel 3: 13)
“We are not to let our appetites control us, but rather we are to have control over our appetites. The ability to say “no” to anything in excess—“self-control”—is one of the fruits of the Spirit common to all believers.”
